On October 13, Buda Castle hosted a truly special event: the Family Day of the Royal Guard Café and the Royal Riding Hall. This free program was not only about entertainment, but also about preserving Hungarian history and cultural heritage. It was more than just a one-time occasion – it aimed to strengthen community bonds and pass traditions on to future generations.
Historical programs and culinary experiences
Throughout the day, visitors could explore the richness of Hungarian history and culture across three locations:
-
Hunyadi Courtyard: The spotlight was on traditional Hungarian gastronomy. Guests could taste delicious pork knuckle dishes and the classic dessert, “császármorzsa.”
-
Royal Riding Hall: The youngest visitors enjoyed special children’s activities, including craft workshops, face painting, and pony rides. Interactive games introduced them to the world of the hussars, and they could even take part in playful training sessions.
-
Csikós Courtyard: Military demonstrations, historical reenactments, and hussar shows brought to life some of the most exciting moments of Hungarian military history.

The importance of community and tradition
The Family Day was not only entertaining but also conveyed deeper values. Its main goal was to strengthen the sense of belonging and to hand down the treasures of Hungarian culture from one generation to the next. Programs such as taking photos with hussars, folk dance lessons, and exhibitions of weapons and cannons allowed participants to engage actively with traditions rather than remain passive observers.
Through the historical presentations, visitors could not only admire the bravery and heroism of the Hungarian hussars, but also reflect on the values that form the foundation of Hungarian culture: loyalty, perseverance, and the power of community.

Lasting memories and values
The Family Day of the Royal Guard Café and the Royal Riding Hall was more than just an event. It was an opportunity for families to relive the glorious moments of Hungarian history together while growing closer to one another. The occasion proved that community-building programs are not only about present-day entertainment, but can also have a long-term impact on people’s lives.
The organizers’ commitment to preserving Hungarian cultural heritage while making it living and lovable is exemplary. This event not only enriched visitors to Buda Castle, but also offered guidance to future generations: respect our past, and build community upon its values.
